The New York Mets have had their fair share of struggles on the field this season. Unfortunately, it appears that their issues may go further than just their performance, as one Mets player detailed that there were some serious chemistry issues in the locker room, especially regarding former Mets pitcher Justin Verlander.
Verlander’s tenure with the Mets was not a long one, signing with the Mets this past offseason and only lasting nearly half a season before being traded to the Houston Astros.
One Mets player that chose to remain anonymous spoke to Mike Puma of the New York Post about the Mets’ chemistry issues,
He detailed that Verlander was a “diva” while he was on the team, and supposedly “largely detached” from his teammates. This reportedly strained the relationship between Verlander and Max Scherzer.
The anonymous player added that Verlander often complained about the Mets’ analytics department, which he believed was not as beneficial as the Astros department that he was used to.
Many took notice of this report and some Mets fans think that it makes sense considering all of the dysfunction that took place on the field for the Mets this season.
Others believe that Verlander has been great in other winning situations, and that he is not the problem with this Mets team.
Regardless of who is to blame for the Mets’ struggles, fans would certainly love to put this disastrous season behind them. They currently sit at the bottom of the National League East with a 52-65 record.
