There has been a ton of controversy surrounding New York Mets star pitcher Max Scherzer after his ejection on Wednesday. That ejection has led to the MLB making a massive decision that will impact the Mets in a huge way moving forward.
Scherzer was ejected from Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers after failing a foreign substance check in between innings.
Crew chief Dan Bellino discussed the incident on Thursday.
He said that Scherzer’s hand was “the stickiest that it has been since I’ve been inspecting hands.”
With all this mounting evidence against Scherzer, the MLB made the decision to suspend the former Cy Young winner for ten games for allegedly using a foreign substance.
Since the MLB began to crack down on foreign substances in 2021, only two other pitchers have been issued suspensions. Both Hector Santiago and Caleb Smith both received ten-game suspensions as well.
Many baseball fans took to social media to offer their opinion on the decision.
Max Scherzer swore on the life of his kids that it was only rosin & sweat.
That’s not something you just throw out there, especially given Scherzer’s status in the game. https://t.co/zSL1lchxHQ

BTW, this Max Scherzer thing would be completely irrelevant to me if nobody got on a Yankee pitcher on Saturday for a legal substance that he cleaned off.

Once Max Scherzer was ejected, him being suspended was fait accompli
The MLB statement on it is hilarious
Given how long the appeal process could take, there’s a chance Justin Verlander returns before Scherzer has to serve this BS suspension

Max Scherzer got a bigger suspension than every player on the 2017 Houston Astros combined. What a joke of a league. https://t.co/0aoRv7miJJ

Mets manager Buck Showalter offered his opinion on the decision as well, saying that they are “comfortable with what went down.”
“We’re comfortable with what went down and what happened and where there was a lack of guilt.”

Many may have expected Scherzer to appeal his suspension. However, he will reportedly not appeal the decision.
He discussed his reasoning for this decision, saying that he doesn’t think that he would win an appeal unless there was a neutral arbitrator.
“I thought I was going to get in front of a neutral arbitrator, but I wasn’t. It was going to be through the MLB. Given that process, I wasn’t going to come out on top.”
This means that the suspension will be served immediately, which will cost him at least two starts.
