The Los Angeles Dodgers have been tremendous hitters with two outs during these MLB playoffs, and that trend continued in Game 3 of the World Series Friday. The Dodgers took a first-inning lead on Justin Turner’s two-out solo shot (his 11th career postseason home run, tying a franchise record set by Duke Snider), but Tampa Bay Rays starter Charlie Morton seemed to have things more under control after that, getting Will Smith to strike out (after a Max Muncy single) to end the first. Morton then got three straight outs in the second, and struck out Austin Barnes and Mookie Betts to start the third, but things started going downhill from there. First, Morton hit Corey Seager with a pitch, then Turner doubled down the left field line (Seager was held at third), and then Max Muncy hit a two-run single on a full count:
That’s a big hit for Muncy, and one that continues that run of Dodgers’ success with two outs. As noted on the broadcast, after that hit they had produced 48 runs with 2 outs, the most all-time in a single postseason. And while Morton got Smith to fly out to end the inning, the damage was still done, and the Dodgers were up 3-0.
