Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp outfielder Monte Harrison made a catch on Saturday night that may be the craziest one in pro baseball this year. The funny thing is that Harrison actually misjudged by the distance of the flyball, but that just ended up making the catch more incredible.
Harrison scaled the outfield wall and even grabbed a railing in the bleachers at Charlotte’s Truist Park, thinking he would need to try to rob a home run. When he realized the ball wasn’t leaving the yard, he had to adjust while clinging to the wall, and reached back to make an absurd catch.
Amazing.
The 25-year-old has actually played 41 games over two seasons with the Miami Marlins (including nine games this season), but is currently playing for their Triple-A squad. FanGraphs ranks Harrison the No. 25 prospect in the Miami system, and he’s known for his defensive skills as that play certainly demonstrates. Hopefully we’ll see him making crazy catches full-time at the big-league level soon.
