Mets fan Kevin James

Kevin James may not be the funniest comedians working today, but his longevity sure is impressive. The ‘King of Queens’ and ‘Paul Blart’ star has a show coming out on CBS called ‘Kevin Can Wait’. After a stint on the big screen, James is ready to return to a primetime slot. But was it all just a ploy so he could catch more Mets games?

The New York native, James had one very, very important stipulation to CBS executives when they were agreeing to terms on the show: move the production from Los Angeles to Long Island. The reasoning? Family and Mets games.

James had this to say to the New York Daily News about the importance of coming back home:

“I lived in L.A. for 17 years, I met my wife there, I have a lot of great friends, a lot of great memories. But it just never felt like home. To be able to take my kids to games at Citi Field now – it’s the food, it is the culture, it is the people, the energy that drives me. It just originated here and it’s what sustains me.”

Celebrities often catch flak for being hard to work with, but James’ case, he is heading home, a feeling you can’t put any cost of money on. If the Mets are a big part of it, more power to the man.

James’ new show ‘Kevin Can Wait’ debuts tonight at 8:30 PM EST on CBS. James plays a retired NYPD cop who finds out that being at home more means responsibilities.
