In an attempt to inspire the Los Angeles Angels out of their 12-game losing streak, manager Joe Maddon got a mohawk haircut. It also happened to be the same day that Maddon was fired as manager, which means he ended up doing it for nothing.
That’s the report according to ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian, who said that Maddon was trying to “awaken his team.” Instead, he’s an unemployed guy with a mohawk haircut.
Brutal.
It’s hard to imagine his hairstyle would have been the difference-maker for Maddon, who had overseen the Angels lose 16 of 19 games, including 12-straight, despite having a roster that includes Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout.
The team was 130-148 in Maddon’s two and a half seasons as the club manager and wasn’t able to make the playoffs under his watch.
Maddon also made it known that he won’t be at the ceremony to honor the 20th anniversary of the franchise’s lone World Series-winning team. While it made sense that he wouldn’t want to be back there just days after getting fired, now we know there might have been an aesthetic reason that he didn’t want to be seen either.
Regardless of the reason, the MLB world certainly had a reaction to the news that Joe Maddon was sporting a mohawk that his team never got to see.

The question now is, will we get to see the mohawk before it’s gone?
