Some shocking news has rattled the MLB community. With the massive fortunes and celebrity statuses that professional athletes enjoy, it’s easy to forget that they’re still regular people with problems of their own.

That’s why it can come as a shock when we hear of how hard professional athletes may be struggling in their personal lives. One MLB star recently admitted to attempting suicide.

Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran revealed that he tried to take his life in 2022 in an appearance on The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox, a show on Netflix.

“And what they said to me, [it was like], ‘I’ve told myself 10 times worse in the mirror.’ That was a really tough time for me. I didn’t even want to be here anymore,” Duran said.

“I got to a point where I was sitting in my room, I had my rifle and I had a bullet and I pulled the trigger and the gun clicked, but nothing happened,” he continued. “So, to this day, I think God just didn’t let me take my own life because I seriously don’t know why it didn’t go off.”

Fans reacted to the shocking revelation on social media.

“I’ve dealt with depression since I was in high school. I’ve never been suicidal, but I know things can get dark. It’s heartbreaking to know he was pushed to this point. Glad he’s still here for sure,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Just goes to show you we’re all human and deal with real world issues. Hope he’s ok now,” another fan added.”Good on him for sharing. Everyone means something to someone!” wrote someone else.

Hopefully, Duran’s honesty helps other people be open to receiving the help they need in times of crisis.
