Jacob deGrom will require Tommy John Surgery to repair a torn UCL, and the news of deGrom’s injury has many upset, and reasonably so.

Evan Grant of The Athletic reported that the Texas Rangers’ ace pitcher would need TJS on his ailing elbow. The Rangers recently placed deGrom on the 60-day IL, a move left with ambiguousness with his outlook not known at the time. Now that the diagnosis and the prognosis are known, we’re only left with the tough details.

The lucrative contract Jacob deGrom signed this off-season includes insurance provisions that could alter it now that he will need Tommy John Surgery.

It’s a tough blow for the first-place Rangers, who will now have to combat the rest of the competitive American League without their prized acquisition. The Rangers are 39-20 and lead the AL West Division by 3.5 games over second-place Houston.

After the news was learned, the MLB world collectively reacted to the Jacob deGrom injury news.

ESPN Stats & Info displayed a troubling trend in the wake of the injury, as deGrom hasn’t made more than 15 starts in a season since 2019.

One user made a comparison to Tim Lincecum and called it a “shame” that they’d have “eerily similar careers.”

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy revealed he was “disappointed” and knew how badly he wanted to come back and pitch.

New York Mets manager Buck Showalter had nice things to say about his former player and wished him well.
