Saturday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres was the opener of the MLB’s Mexico City Series, and it made for one of the wildest scores in recent memory.
Games at Coors Field, the home of the Colorado Rockies are known to have a ton of offensive production due to the increased elevation that leads to significantly more home runs. That was taken to the next level in Mexico City, which has an even higher elevation than Colorado.
Starting pitchers Joe Musgrove and Sean Manaea struggled heavily to get many outs, both leaving the game early on due to letting up four and seven runs respectively.
The game featured 27 combined runs, 30 hits, 11 home runs, 72 combined total bases, and four instances of back-to-back home runs. It was the Padres that got the better of this offensive showcase, winning the game 16-11.
It was certainly a game to remember, and many around the MLB world took to social media to discuss it after its conclusion.
The betting line for the total in the game was abnormally high to start, sitting at 15.5 which is largely unheard of in MLB games. It flew over that total by a whopping 12 runs.
The longest home run hit in the game came in the top of the third inning from Brandon Crawford, unbelievably going 482 feet. This would have been the seventh-longest home run hit in the entire 2022 season.
Fans of offense were likely to love this game. They will potentially get to see it again when the two teams face off again on Sunday.
