The San Francisco Giants overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Colorado Rockies 6-3 on Sunday night, completing a much-needed three-game sweep. But it’s unlikely that any celebration in San Francisco’s home clubhouse after the game matched a celebration in Oracle Park’s bleachers during the game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, San Francisco’s Mike Yastrzemski hit what looked like it might be a home run. The ball didn’t quite have home run distance but did make it over the fence. Colorado left fielder Sean Bouchard couldn’t quite chase the ball down. It landed on the warning track and hopped over the fence for a ground rule double.
The ball bounced to a group of kids. It sparked a celebration that, in all honesty, might rival what we see from the eventual World Series champions in the fall.
Baseball fans everywhere found a lot of joy in the young fans being so clearly happy.

There’s certainly no obligation for adult fans to find a kid in the section to give a foul ball, home run or ground rule double to. That said, this makes a pretty compelling case for doing that. Getting that ball is going to be a lasting great memory for multiple young fans.
