The Los Angeles Dodgers own one of the best records in Major League Baseball but stand second in the National League West to the surprising Arizona Diamondbacks. While the Dodgers also possess one of the best rosters in MLB, they took a hit when lefthander and former All-Star Julio Urías went down with a hamstring injury. Some troubling news is afoot now, as Urias reportedly suffered a setback in his recovery efforts.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts informed reporters on Friday before the team took the field in Philadelphia that Urias will miss his planned return on Sunday. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic tweeted, “Julio Urías won’t start Sunday as planned, Dave Roberts said. Didn’t feel 10 percent after his bullpen yesterday. They’ll taxi someone and effectively run a bullpen game on Sunday.”
It’s a tough setback for Urías and the Dodgers. Dodger starting pitching hasn’t been the usually strong unit it’s been the last few years. Through 64 games, the team ranks 7th in the National League with a 4.36 ERA. Their peripherals aren’t too much better, so what we’re seeing is what we’re getting from them.
Urías had been struggling himself before the injury, as well. In 55.1 innings pitched, Urías earned a 5-4 record with a 4.39 ERA and a 5.30 FIP. His ERA was the highest he had posted after recording a sub-3.00 ERA three times in four seasons.
