Andrelton Simmons is arguably the best defensive player in baseball, and the Angels’ shortstop showed off his wizardry with an absurd play against the Mariners on Saturday night in Anaheim.
In the top of the third, Seattle’s Jean Segura tried advancing from first to third on a slow roller in the infield, and first baseman Jefry Marte made a throw high and wide of third base. But, Simmons came to the rescue, and somehow made a ridiculous behind-the-back tag that would even impress the Cubs’ Javy Baez. Segura was originally ruled safe, but the play was overturned after review.
Here’s video of Simmons and his magic:

That’s surely just one of many, many unbelievable plays the 27-year-old shortstop is going to make this season.
