The Seattle Mariners got a walkoff homer from Mitch Haniger to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in a wild 13-inning game Friday night at Safeco Field. The Mariners are one of baseball’s biggest surprises this year, with a 35-20 record, along with a 17-9 record in one-run games and a 6-0 record in extra innings.
But all that good stuff isn’t good enough for Seattle’s Dee Gordon. The two-time All-Star had a rough 0-for-6 night at the plate as the Mariners’ leadoff hitter, and wasn’t happy.
So the former Marlin decided to take some extra swings after the four-hour, 16-minute game ended.
On the field.
By himself.
At 12:30 AM.
Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times live-tweeted the scene, which even included Gordon dragging a cart into sprinklers to pick up baseballs he hit into the outfield off a tee.
Amazing.
You don’t win batting titles without dedication to the craft, and Gordon — a .294 career hitter and owner of the 2015 NL batting crown — clearly is quite dedicated.
