There were several reports that Chicago Cubs infielder David Bote suffered a leg injury during batting practice ahead of the team’s game against the Chicago White Sox on Friday night, but details were lacking as to how exactly the injury happened. ESPN Chicago’s Jesse Rogers reported that Bote “tripped.” The Athletic’s Jon Greenberg reported that Bote “was in serious pain.”
And the Cubs officially announced that Bote was scratched from the lineup — he was set to bat fifth and play second base — due to a right ankle sprain.
Well, video has emerged showing how Bote suffered the injury, and it was just like how Henry Rowengartner lost his (very) hard-to-believe arm strength in Rookie of the Year.
Bote stepped on a baseball, rolled his right ankle, and immediately went down to the ground in pain.
And that basically summarizes how the Cubs — now 56-74 after a 17-13 loss to the White Sox — have looked following the trade deadline. Hopefully it’s not a serious ankle sprain for Bote.
