Javier Assad showed off some soccer skills in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ (Cubs’ Single-A affiliate) game against the Salem Red Sox.
The pitcher mishandled a rolling bunt near the infield dirt, and with little time to pick up the ball and throw it, he chose to kick the baseball to his first baseman. It worked beautifully, with the kick serving as a perfect toss to record the out.
This is an unbelievable play:
That was the beginning of an outstanding night for Assad. The 21-year-old right-hander — and right-footer — threw six scoreless innings in a 12-2 Pelicans win.
