Six-time All-Star pitcher CC Sabathia had a long and storied career lasting 19 seasons in the MLB, but many don’t know that he had some serious struggles in his personal life that he dealt with throughout most of his career.

Sabathia admittedly had an addiction to alcohol for the majority of his MLB career, but it appears that he got those issues under control.

He took to social media to share with his fans that Wednesday is seven years to the day that he began his sobriety that he has been able to maintain.

“Blessed to celebrate 7 years of sobriety to this day,” wrote Sabathia. “Seven years ago, I made a decision to improve every aspect of my life. To be a better teammate, father, husband, and friend. I’m so thankful to have overcome alcohol dependency and live a healthy life. To many more years.”

Many of his fans took the chance to praise him on the anniversary of this awesome feat.

Nobody will ever know for sure, but his sobriety likely helped in a big way in aiding CC Sabathia to pitch well into his upper 30s, especially since he was never in the best shape physically as a player.

It is always great to see legends of the game doing well after their playing career is done, and in Sabathia’s case it seems like he is doing better mentally now than he was was for most of his MLB career.
