Could the Milwaukee Brewers potentially face relocation?

As a major proposal to renovate American Family Field in Milwaukee seeks approval, MLB Commissioner ROb Manfred is reportedly expected to be in Milwaukee. When he’s there, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, he will be pushing for the renovations to go through, and if they don’t, the dreaded word “relocation” might be used.

“Wisconsin’s Legislature and Gov. Tony Evers need to approve a plan to finance $448 million of long-term renovations at American Family Field — or risk the Milwaukee Brewers moving to another city. That’s the message expected to be delivered Thursday by Major League Baseball Commissioner Robert Manfred, who’s visiting Milwaukee,” the Journal-Sentinel reported.

The publication reports that the Democratic Governor Evers had proposed a plan in February that would call for the state to back the renovations at the stadium financially. But it was interrupted after Republicans rejected the proposal. The Journal-Sentinel writes that the Republicans control the Wisconsin Legislature. However, the report states they have been “negotiating a separate deal that has yet to be unveiled.”

The report states that the $448 million would cover the entire cost of renovations and account for inflation.

It’s probably unlikely that the Brewers will move, as the banter in the government sounds like it just has to be sorted out. But it is noteworthy that Manfred feels compelled to speak publicly so as to ensure that the team stays in Milwaukee.
