After splitting a pair of exciting games on Monday and Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves had another thriller on Sunday. This one came down to the wire, with the Braves celebrating a walk-off win.
Tommy La Stella hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to give the Giants an insurance run and a 3-1 lead. But the Braves quickly took that insurance away when Dansby Swanson led off the bottom of the ninth and cut the deficit in half with a home run.
Marcell Ozuna then singled, bringing up Matt Olson, who homered twice on Tuesday. Olson didn’t homer this time, narrowly missing the sweet spot of his bat with a flyout to deep center. But Ozuna made a heads-up play and tagged up from first. One hitter later, that loomed large when William Contreras singled in Ozuna to tie the game.
The good baserunning did not stop there.
Orlando Arcia struck out but Contreras — while not known for his speed — stole second base on the third strike. That brought up Adam Duvall, who singled in Contreras to win the game.
That might be the most amazing win of the #Braves season so far.
Holy crap.#ForTheA

What great AB’s in the 9th by the Braves. What a series!!! The Giants & Braves are both solid teams.

This has been a thrilling series with basically no breaks.
Atlanta’s wins on Monday and Wednesday were both walk-offs. San Francisco’s win on Tuesday was a thrilling back-and-forth slugfest. The Braves and Giants have one more game in this series and a three-game series in San Francisco in September.
Each team entered Wednesday’s game in postseason position. Excluding fans of rival teams, it’s hard to imagine anyone being upset if the Braves and Giants meet in the playoffs.
