It is a time-honored tradition for a special guest to perform the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at Wrigley Field since the passing of the iconic voice of the Cubs, Harry Caray. Tonight, with the World Series returning to Wrigley Field for the first time since 1945, Bill Murray will do the honors.
Murray is no stranger to providing his rendition of the baseball classic. The legendary Cubs fan is one of the best to do it, so it is only natural to have him in the booth to take the mic this evening. He has most certainly been enjoying this postseason ride the Cubs have taken him on so far.
Prior to the game, Hall of Fame Cub Billy Williams will toss out the ceremonial first pitch. Hmm… Bill Murray in the seventh. Billy Williams with the first pitch. Pulling out all the big guns!
Well, not quite. The national anthem will be performed by Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Stump is a Chicago native who has had a good run with promotional material for Major League Baseball in recent years. Who could forget the “light a mup” song that was omnipresent throughout multiple promotional campaigns?
We’d like to forget that.
