The baseball community is in mourning Sunday, as one of the game’s best players and most likable personalities, Jose Fernandez, has died in a boating accident at age 24.
By all accounts, Fernandez was the type of cheerful, gregarious and caring person who those around him can’t help but love. On the mound he was always smiling, and off the field he was beloved in the Miami community.
The outpouring of emotion from baseball players and teams has been remarkable. It would be almost impossible to compile every reaction to Fernandez’s tragic death from a current or former Major-League player on Twitter, but we’ve culled some of the best ones, to try to illustrate just how universally adored Fernandez was.

Like everyone else I cannot believe the news I woke up to. My heart is beyond grieved for his family, the Marlins, and those men that suit..
