The Baltimore Orioles faced off against the Houston Astros on Tuesday, and a close call at first base led to Orioles manager Brandon Hyde coming out of the dugout and delivering an epic tirade toward first-base umpire Edwin Moscoso.
Astros star Jeremy Pena hit a hard ground ball to Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson in the top of the sixth inning. He bounced a throw over to Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who made a terrific effort to dig the throw out of the dirt and make the play at first.
However, Edwin Moscoso called Pena safe at first base, and Brandon Hyde was instantly not happy with the call. He walked out of the dugout to ask if they would review the play without a coaching challenge since they had already used it earlier in the game.
Moscoso told him that they would review the call, which set off Hyde, who proceeded to toss his hat onto the ground and get into the umpire’s face.
Needless to say, Hyde was ejected for this interaction with Edwin Moscoso. But fans appreciated that Hyde got his money’s worth in this heated ejection.
It actually looked like Pena may have been safe on the play when a replay of the bang-bang call was shown on the broadcast, so Brandon Hyde may actually want to take back some of his choiced words for the first-base umpire once he sees the play again.
