The New York Yankees may have won on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Cleveland Guardians 5-1 to advance to the American League Championship Series, but the team still suffered a major loss as Aaron Hicks will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury during the game.
Hicks left the game in the fourth inning after colliding with teammate Oswaldo Cabrera as the two both went for a fly ball. After the game, Hicks told reporters that an MRI revealed he will be out for six weeks with a knee injury, meaning that he will not be able to return for the rest of the team’s postseason run.
“Pretty much, I’m going to be out for six weeks. Pretty much, my season’s over,” Hicks told reporters after the game. “It’s extremely disappointing. Obviously, it’s something special and I want to be a part of it. And now I’m no longer going to be able to play on the field to do my best to help this team win and win a world series. Now I just gotta watch on the sideline.”
This is obviously disappointing news for the Yankees star, and the Major League Baseball world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Probably the last time Hicks will have put the Yankees pinstripes on was last night (Tuesday). I expect he'll be traded this winter even if it's just for some pen arm or prospect. For much like the Yankees moved Gallo. https://t.co/6dwiAtmqXH

Brutal for Hicks… seemed like a pretty obvious ligament tear from the impact and the violent inward rotation of the knee while it was planted, but I was really hoping it was something else. Awful. https://t.co/4sblfhkZJR

Hicks will recover and likely bounce back next season, but that will be too late for him to be a part of this year’s postseason run.
