Tiger Woods Syndication: The Augusta Chronicle

Tiger Woods was set to take part in this week’s Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines South Course. But it does not sound like that’s going to happen, after all.

The PGA Tour superstar announced on social media that he will be pulling out of the event as he continues to mourn the loss of his mother, who passed away last week.

Tiger Woods said he is “just not ready” to return to golf.

“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods wrote in a statement shared on social media. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.

“Thanks to everyone who has reached out,” Woods continued. “I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.”

Woods announced last week that his beloved mother, Kultida, died at 80 years old.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote in a post on X last week. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie.

“Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”

Woods, who underwent multiple surgeries during the offseason, has not played competitive golf since the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon where he missed the cut.
