Golfer Stewart Cink announced on Twitter Tuesday he is stepping away from the game in order to care for his ailing wife, Lisa, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last week.
Cink, 42, won the 2009 British Open and has finished in the top-three in the Masters, U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship. He turned pro in 1995 and has six PGA tour wins. He was named the PGA Tour rookie of the year in 1997, and is currently ranked 208th in the world.
When the news of Lisa’s cancer diagnosis broke, the family received an outpouring of support from the golf community.
While it appears that Cink is stepping away from golf for the time being, he and his wife are going to have a very strong support system to get through this.
