Phil Mickelson may be with LIV Golf and out of the PGA Tour, but he appears to keep tabs on his old stomping grounds still.
Mickelson (seen above at a LIV tournament last October) must have spent Saturday afternoon watching the final round of The Farmers Insurance Open. During the afternoon, he took to Twitter to call out the PGA Tour for hypocrisy regarding rules regulating shorts on the course during sanctioned events.
“The Tour doesn’t allow shorts but does allow this week’s leader to wear joggers with ankle socks? Showing 4 inches of ankle? I’m no fashion guy, never will be, but there are some things I
Mickelson is upset at PGA Tour rules barring players from wearing shorts. He sees hypocrisy in the fact that PGA golfers can’t wear shorts, but the league will allow players to wear joggers and ankle socks.
Mickelson was one of the most famous golfers in PGA Tour history before leaving to play with the Saudi Arabian government-backed league in LIV Golf in 2022.
“I’m pretty surprised at how far LIV has come because there was a lot of uncertainty, like who would play in London,” Mickelson said following his last round of the season in October, according to Sports Illustrated. “You look at the strength of the league now, and you have a lot of really strong players, and you have a lot of really strong characters in the game. Whether you love them or hate them, there’s a lot of guys here that people want to see.”
Only time will tell if the PGA Tour will change the rules to allow shorts.
