LIV Golf’s Patrick Reed has been teeing off on a lot of people in the courtroom recently. He’s also literally teed off at PGA Tour golfer Rory McIlroy in a much more literal fashion.
The two golf stars were at the driving range at the Emirates Golf Club on Tuesday for the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour when Reed apparently approached McIlroy to say hello. While McIlroy didn’t acknowledge him, Reed spoke briefly with Rory’s caddie before walking away and throwing a tee in the PGA Tour golfer’s direction, according to the Spanish site TenGolf.com.
Reed and McIlroy have been very vocal supporters of their respective golf tours and harsh critics of each other, which has certainly created some tension between them and their fellow golfers.
Reed is playing in the DP World Tour but has been suspended from the PGA Tour for his involvement with LIV. The 2018 Masters champ filed a defamation lawsuit against Golf Channel and analyst Brandel Chamblee but that case has been dismissed. He’s also threatened defamation suits against many other outlets and critics.
McIlroy is finishing up a very successful season for himself, with three wins in 2022, as well as the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai and PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup.
While there have been a lot of public calls for LIV and the PGA to break bread and come to an understanding, it doesn’t sound like we’re anywhere close to that right now.
