It’s hard to find a more polarizing figure in the golf world than Greg Norman.

The LIV Golf CEO has often been surrounded by controversy, making bold claim after bold claim about the Saudi-backed league, while drawing the ire of the PGA Tour. Now, Norman is making another claim, stating that a “long list of players” want to join LIV Golf, though the roster is already finalized for the professional golf tour in 2023.

“It’s an ongoing process,” Norman recently told the NCA NewsWire. “We’ve got a long list of players who want to come in. We just don’t have the ability today because players are under contract. But we’ll get to a position where there will be a relegation series and places will start opening up.”

The high-profile names joining the Saudi-backed league have considerably dried up after a rough inaugural season in 2022. The viewership numbers have been dismal, as several LIV Golf events broadcasted on CW have failed to draw over 300,000 viewers. And yet, Norman claims that the number of players and the veracity their names carry would surprise those in the golf world, who have seriously doubted the success of LIV Golf.

“It’s incredible the amount of players who want to come on board,” he said. “It would surprise you how good those names are.”

Of course, Norman has yet to offer substantial proof of those claims, so it remains to be seen just what names will be the next golfers to defect from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.
