A business owned by former American president Donald Trump is keeping current on its payment schedule for a $400,000 fine after it over-served a customer who later was involved in a fatal crash.
According to Forbes, a patron left the Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck in August 2015. He then later drove his Mini Cooper over a curb before flipping and rolling the vehicle. The crash killed the vehicle’s only other passenger.
According to media reports at the time, the driver was over the .08 BAC legal limit. In January 2018, he pled guilty to vehicular homicide and was sentenced to three years in probation, 100 hours of community service, and ordered to undergo substance abuse counseling.
The New Jersey attorney general’s office charged the Trump club in 2019 with serving a person who was “actually or apparently intoxicated,” according to Forbes. The attorney general’s office also alleged that Trump National provided alcohol on the golf course beyond the scope of its liquor license.
Trump reportedly did not contest the charges and in 2021 agreed to pay a $400,000 fine in annual installments of $100,000.
“This licensee is up to date with payments on the consent order,” Allison Inserro told Forbes. “There is one remaining payment, due October 2024.”
