Scottie Scheffler won the BMW Championship in Owings Mills, Maryland, this past weekend to continue his dominant run this year, his fifth victory of the year. Scheffler chipped in for a miraculous birdie to extend his lead on hole 17 on Sunday, perfectly encapsulating the otherworldly level he’s been on as of late.

However, not everyone had such a strong showing on Sunday. Ben Griffin was 6-over after 3 holes, and his explanation for why is sure to raise some eyebrows.

“I’ve taken it on the golf course before. It’s fine,” Griffin explained, via the PGA Tour’s official website. “I started taking it after my second shot, and I accidentally swallowed one of the big rocks in my water bottle. I’ve never overdosed on creatine before, but I think I did in the moment because I didn’t really drink any water after that. I basically just inhaled a snowball.

“So I started getting super shaky. I’ve never felt like that before, and I felt like I had tremors. I four-putted (No.) 1 and on (No.) 2, I was like freaking out and didn’t know what to do. Like, I hit it so far out of bounds.

“Luckily, my caddie stepped in and made me chug a whole water and tried to calm down a little bit,” Griffin continued. “I hit the other one in play, and then I was fine. I ended up making, whatever, a double on that hole and bogeyed the next hole. It was probably more just a little bit flustered.

“I was fine after the second shot on two. And then it was — I felt good so I went about my day and got it back to under par. But, yeah, pretty crazy story. I don’t think I’ll be taking too much creatine in the future. I will take it, but not in the amount that I probably did on the golf course, which wasn’t probably a healthy amount.”

Fans reacted to Griffin on social media.

“Just when I think my buddies golf excuses were ridiculous, Ben says hold my beer,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Clearly he took some nitric oxide booster or some preworkout adjacent thing lol… you don’t FEEL creatine this way smh,” someone else added.

“That doesn’t sound right. Too much creatine should make you nauseous if anything. Not panicky,” another fan wrote.

Hopefully, Griffin is more careful in the future, for his sake.
