Scottie Scheffler wowed the golf world at the PGA Championship on Thursday. The opening round of the second major on the 2023 PGA Tour calendar saw Scheffler excel like no other. He put in a remarkable performance and a history-making one for himself.

The world’s second-ranked golfer put in three birdies and 15 pars in the first round of the 2023 PGA Championship. According to ESPN Stats & Info, it’s the first time he’s ever had a major round go without a bogey.

“Today marked Scheffler’s 51st career major round, but it’s his first without a single bogey,” the sports database tweeted.

Scheffler’s bogey-less day put him -3 for the day. He’s one stroke behind Bryson DeChambeau and Keegan Bradley, who are tied for the lead at -4 through 15 holes at Round 1, and Scheffler’s day already ended, so he’ll have to hope Bradley or DeCheambeau falter if he wants to be above third place.

That speaks to the level of competition in the tournament. You can go without a bogey in the entire round, and still, it might not be enough to be in first place. Such is life.

Not surprisingly, the golf world had plenty to say about the spectacular day Scottie Scheffler had at the 2023 PGA Championship. Plenty of people were willing to pile on the praise for the No. 2 golfer in the world.
