Porta-potties are terrifying.

They’re cramped, claustrophobic and the smell could kill your appetite for a week or longer. In Australia, they’re slightly more terrifying because of the presence of potentially venomous spiders. One 21-year-old man found that out the hard way.

The man was bitten in the nether-regions by a redback spider while sitting in a porta-potty, but somehow managed to transport himself to the hospital after nearly losing his little friend in the process. He’s been released from the hospital in stable condition, but it’s going to be tough for him to do much of anything with an icepack on his crotch for the next few weeks.

Bites from the redback spider, which are native to Australia, are highly poisonous and can cause nausea, severe pain, sweating and convulsions. Only female redbacks have venom in their bites. Thankfully, an antivenom was developed in the 50’s.

Pretty sure this poor young lad is going to be extra sensitive to “biting” down there from now on.
