The Green Bay Packers had the ball at the Los Angeles Rams one-yard line while leading 24-12 with 1:39 left to play during Monday night’s game. But instead of punching it in for another touchdown, the Packers decided to end the game with a series of quarterback kneels. And that decision likely cost some bettors quite a bit of money.
The over/under on the points total of Monday night’s game closed at 39.5 points. This means that if the Packers would have scored one more time – either a field goal or a touchdown – the over would have hit. But thanks to the decision from Packers head coach Matt LaFleur to kneel out the rest of the game, the under cashed instead.
“I didn’t think about that. I just think there’s a way you handle winning in this league,” LaFleur said of his decision to kneel down instead of score, according to Pro Football Talk. “I’ve got a lot of respect for those guys we’re competing against.”
It’s an admirable decision by LaFleur to respect his opponent like that, but it was surely agonizing to a few over bettors on Monday night.
