There are few things more American than a fast-food rivalry. Perhaps the only thing that could up the stakes would be to make it a rivalry involving bacon.

For years, McDonald’s has been trying to figure out how to compete with Wendy’s bacon-centric menu items, including the Baconator Fries. They may have found their answer in the “Loaded Bacon & Cheese Basket of Fries” that they’re currently testing out.

As you’ve probably guessed, the basket includes a good helping of McDonald’s signature fries topped with a cheddar cheese sauce and applewood-smoked bacon. It’s the same bacon you’ll find on top of select burgers and in breakfast sandwiches.

If you want to sample this potential game changer, you better head to McDonald’s in the Greater Pittsburgh area, Central West Virginia, Southeast Ohio, and Eastern Kentucky, which is where they’ve been spotted so far. Of course, there’s no guarantee you’ll find them on that menu or if they’re still available. If you do find them, they’ve been priced at $3.99. For reference, Baconator fries will run you $1.99).

The menu option isn’t a new one for the restaurant chain internationally. They already sell the basket in select markets overseas as well as in Mexico. But now it seems like the time is right for America to get its hands on this greasy treat.

Come to think of it, why didn’t McDonald’s put this out in the U.S. years ago?
