The NFL revealed the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year finalists on Wednesday morning.
Five coaches from around the league will vie for the honor as finalists. Brian Daboll, Doug Pederson, Kyle Shanahan, Nick Sirriani, and Sean McDermott represent the quintet that could bring the NFL Coach of the Year award home.
As anticipated, much discussion has been had about the finalists. Some of that came from ESPN analyst Louis Riddick on Twitter. Riddick went off and blasted NFL Coach of the Year voters over their choices and two coaches in particular who voters snubbed.
Riddick stumped for both Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor and Kansas City coach Andy Reid. “No Zach Taylor in COY discussion. No Andy Reid in COY discussion. Sustaining greatness is a skill worthy of unique recognition,” Riddick tweeted.
Then Riddick went on a more passionate defense of Taylor. A fan replied to Riddick, suggesting Taylor’s status seemed inflated due to the talent the Bengals have. The ESPN analyst turned quickly.
“It’s this kind of either-or bull— that makes it impossible to have any kind of intelligent discussion on here or anywhere for that matter. Player/coach performance are interconnected at the highest level. If u r capable, think abt how far the Bengals have come under Taylor,” he tweeted.
And he wasn’t done stumping for Taylor, either. It’s clear Riddick believed he should have been up for NFL Coach of the Year, especially after his next tweet.
“You have a hard time recognizing Zac Taylor’s competence level because you probably don’t know him, probably never talked to him, and probably don’t really get how it all works,” he tweeted.
