A-list Hollywood actor Denzel Washington is not a fan of the way sports coverage in the media has trended. The Academy Award-winning actor absolutely ripped the state of sports media coverage.

“Everybody’s got an opinion. We live in a world of ‘opinionaires,’” Washington said, according to Awful Announcing. “That’s what I call them, ‘opinionaires.’ They’re on all the shows. A bunch of the guys — a couple of ’em that have played, but most of them who haven’t — who have an opinion about what something should be when they haven’t done it.

“Those who can’t talk about those who can. Those who have, know what they’re talking about. Those who haven’t, don’t. Period. Too much talking. Too much talking. Everybody got an opinion. Everybody’s sitting around getting fat, thinking they know how to do it. Just ‘cuz you can sit behind a desk and chit chat doesn’t mean you can do a damn thing.”

Fans reacted to Washington’s take on social media.

“Just like everyone else, I love Denzel. But this is ironic because Denzel, to my knowledge, has never been a sports commentator. So isn’t he doing here precisely what he is accusing them of doing,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Love Denzel but turned right around and went on first take dawg where was this energy then?” someone else wanted to know.

“He just was on first take with them though lol,” another person noted.

As more and more people voice their displeasure with the current landscape of sports media, it’ll be interesting to see if true journalism makes a return.
