The details of Trent Dilfer’s contract as the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s head coach have been announced.
Dilfer, who turned 51 on Monday, will earn a base salary of $1.2 million, with an annual talent fee of $50,000, and an annual promotion fee of $50,000.
According to The Tennessean, his contract will run through January 2028, and was approved, without objections, by the UA System board of trustees compensation committee.
Dilfer was named the head coach back in November after spending four seasons at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tenn. During that tenure, he took the team to two Tennessee state titles, and finished with a 44-10 record.
“Having the opportunity to lead such a quality program like UAB is one that I am beyond excited about,” Dilfer said in a UAB statement after he was hired. “The investments the university has made for UAB Football aligns with my vision of taking this program to new heights as we join the American Athletic Conference and compete annually for the highest prize of playing in the College Football Playoff. I would like to thank President Ray Watts, Director of Athletics Mark Ingram and the entire search committee for their commitment to excellence and for trusting in me as we venture into this new era of UAB Football together.”
For Dilfer, he wasn’t a complete stranger to the Alabama football ways. An admitted fanboy of UAB’s former head coach Bill Clark. Dilfer even said he watched anywhere from 600-700 plays from the program to get him prepared for the gig and will stay true to what Clark did for the program.
Afterall, Clark helped revive football for the university.
Prior to coaching, Dilfer was a quarterback spending 14 seasons in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl championship with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. He also had a nine-year broadcasting career with ESPN, serving as an analyst.
He’s also the head coach for the Elite 11 Academy, which was founded in 1999 and has seen the likes of Tom Brady, Joe Burrow and Derek Carr.
