It’s hard to remember an NFL draft prospect as polarizing as former Colorado Buffaloes star and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. Hunter is elite at not only at cornerback, but is also arguably the best wide receiver in this year’s draft class.
It’s yet to be seen which position Hunter will play in the pros or if he’ll play both sides of the ball like he did in college, but either way, some shocking news dropped concerning him on Monday evening, according to one prominent league insider.
“The University of Colorado will be retiring Shedeur Sanders’ No. 2 and Travis Hunter’s No. 12,” Ari Meirov reported on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the news that Sanders and Hunter will be receiving one of the sports’ highest honors on social media.
“Travis, I understand. Shedeur, this makes no sense. They’re not even in the league yet. And their team wasn’t all that good. Insane,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“For what exactly? Travis at least won a heisman tbf but I mean come on,” another person wrote.
“I could understand retiring Travis Hunter’s jersey. Dude won the Heisman, and was a top-tier player on both sides of the ball. But what could Shadeur Sanders have done to get his jersey retired? I feel lost,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the pro careers of Sanders and Hunter pan out.
