Since Deion Sanders took over as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes a few months ago, there has been plenty of buzz in Boulder.

The buzz has grown louder and louder following Colorado opening the season 2-0 with wins over TCU and Nebraska.

Following Colorado’s Week 2 victory over the Cornhuskers, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, had plenty to say about Matt Rhule and the Nebraska/Colorado rivalry.

“It was extremely personal,” Sanders said in his post-game comments. “The coach [Rhule] said a lot of things about my Pops, about the program, but now he wanna act nice. I don’t respect that.”

It’s unclear what exactly Sanders is referring to, although Rhule made some comments during the summer about how other schools overuse the transfer portal, which many took as a shot at Colorado as the Buffaloes brought in a large number of transfers this summer.

While the Nebraska and Colorado rivalry dates back to 1898, it has gained some additional juice of late. The teams stopped the annual game in 2010 after Nebraska left the Big 12 for the Big Ten and Colorado left the Big 12 for the Pac-12. The programs agreed to resume the game in 2018, 2019, 2023, and 2024. Colorado has won the first three of the four meetings, and it’s unclear if the series will extend past 2024, so if Rhule is looking to get revenge on the Sanders, he will have one more chance next season.
