As the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes prepare to head to South Bend to take on the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in one of the season’s biggest matchups, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has shared some thoughts on Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman and the team itself.
“You can tell Hartman is a veteran,” Day told reporters on Tuesday “He’s been around. He’s played a lot of football. Accurate. Intelligent. A lot of good attributes for a quarterback. He’s very good. He won a lot of games at Wake Forest and obviously, he’s 4-0 now. Efficient. And I think they are doing a really good job with him.”
While Notre Dame is 4-0 this year due to playing a Week Zero game in Ireland, Ohio State is also undefeated at 3-0. The Buckeyes rolled to easy home wins over Youngstown State and Western Kentucky in the past couple of weeks, but their only road game so far this year was a season-opening 23-3 win over Indiana in Bloomington. The Buckeyes got the job done against the Hoosiers but looked out of sync at points during the game.
Day understands the environment in South Bend will be tough and benefit the Irish, making an already good Notre Dame that much tougher, but he also added that Ohio State is ready, saying, “They have a really good team. Marcus [Freeman] does a great job. They have a great staff. We got to go win a top 10 game on the road. Our guys are really excited for this game. You could see it Sunday. You could see it yesterday. Guys buzzing around. So now we have to have a great week of practice, and it’s going to come down to who wants to compete more.”
