College football realignment talks have reignited once again with news that several ACC schools, including Clemson and Florida State, could be interested in leaving the conference and joining a different one. But it doesn’t sound like ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum thinks either of those two schools would be a good fit for the SEC.
During an appearance on McElroy and Cubelic this week, Finebaum claimed that Clemson “doesn’t bring that much” to the SEC and that Florida State is “not nearly as attractive as they think.”
“Clemson to me, quite frankly doesn’t bring that much,” Finebaum said according to On3. “I know it brings a national championship program from a couple of years ago. Clemson won twice, but from a geographical standpoint, I don’t think they had anything. I think South Carolina already covers the area in that part of the world very well.
“I think Florida State is similar. I don’t think they’re nearly as attractive as they think they are. Besides, Florida already covers that part of the world. And so I think Miami to me, it would be next. I think it’s an important part of the country. It’s a very populated part of the country too.”
That’s a pretty bold stance from Finebaum. It will certainly be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
