The fallout from the Northwestern hazing scandal continues as former ex-head coach Pat Fitzgerald is named a defendant in a new lawsuit brought by one of his former players.

Fitzgerald was fired by the school after it was found out he knew about the allegations and did nothing about it.

The player, who filed anonymously, also named university president Michael Schill and athletic director Derrick Gragg as defendants as well in a lawsuit filed Tuesday morning by the former Wildcats player who said the program and its leaders were negligent in allowing hazing inside the team’s locker room.

His attorneys, Patrick Salvi, and Parker Stinar, said they’ve also talked to other players on other teams within the athletic department and they expected to join the lawsuit too.

“It seems like the athletic department as a whole was culturally tainted in a way that permitted hazing, sexual harassment, [and] racial discrimination,” Stinar said.

It was also announced Monday that eight Northwestern players are planning a lawsuit against the school and have hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump to represent them.

Fitzgerald still maintains he had no idea what was going on and is planning his own lawsuit against Northwestern for wrongful termination.
