If the Pac-12 continues to be a football conference after this year, it will bear almost no resemblance to the conference that people are familiar with, as 10 of the 12 schools are committed to another conference. And if this is it for the Pac-12, the conference may be going out on a high note.
After Oregon State’s game on Sunday, every team in the Pac-12 has played at least one game. The Beavers 42-17 win over San Jose State also means that no team in the conference is lost.
Shortly after Oregon State’s win, ESPN’s Heather Dinich tweeted that the Pac-12 has a collective 13-0 record. She also noted that the last time every Pac-12 team won its opening game was in 1932, when the conference was known as the Pacific Coast Conference.
And while big conference schools often dominate the early weeks, playing Group of Five or even Division II opponents, this record goes a little deeper than that. Colorado has a win over TCU, a College Football Playoff team from a season ago. Utah, meanwhile, has a convincing win over SEC’s Florida. Washington also has a win over the perennially strong Group of Five team, Boise State.
Time will tell if this continues. But if the early days of the college football season are any indicator, the Pac-12 may be going out on a high note.
