The ‘tush push’ is rolling along through the NFL. Jalen Hurts, and the Philadelphia Eagles kicked a phenomenon off last year when they took advantage of a rule that allows players to push a ball carrier ahead while they’re running at the line. On Friday night, it appeared that the ‘tush push’ made its way to the college game.
The 19th-ranked Oregon State Beavers hosted the 10th-ranked Utah Utes in Corvallis. It was the Beavers who emerged from the defensive battle with a victory as they defeated the Utes 21-7.
One of those scores came early in the 4th quarter. The Beavers held a 14-0 lead with 13:56 remaining in the final quarter. On 4th and 1, the Beavers lined up. By the formation, you could sense that head coach Jonathan Smith might have left the Eagles game tape on for too long one night. They lined up just as the Eagles and others do when they’re about to pull off that play.
However, the Beavers faked the Utes and everyone in Reser Stadium out. Silas Bolden took a pitch from quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and then scampered 44 yards for a touchdown!
The move stunned the Utes and led to their eventual demise. It also excited everyone else who stayed up to watch the late-night victory. Oregon State will likely climb up the rankings this week after pulling off the victory over Utah. When they do, they can look back at this play as a big reason why.
The college football world couldn’t stop talking about the fake ‘tush push’ after it went down.
#88 needs some points on that.
