We’re not halfway through the college football season, and the college coaching rumor carousel is already in motion.
On some level, it would make sense for Ohio State Buckeyes wide receivers coach and recruiting ace Brian Hartline to leave for South Bend, Indiana, to become offensive coordinator of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
It would be a promotion, if only in title and responsibilities. Hartline was an Ohio State teammate of current Irish head coach Marcus Freeman.
The Irish, for their part, will probably be looking to revamp their tepid offense this offseason. But if they want to do so, it will reportedly be without the services of Hartline.
“Since we have been asked about it for some reason: Ohio State Rivals sources with direct knowledge of the situation strongly, categorically denied that Brian Hartline would have any interest in leaving Ohio State to be the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame,” wrote beat reporter Austin Ward.
Hartline returned to Columbus in 2017 following a seven-year career in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns. Working under former head coach Urban Meyer and current head coach Ryan Day, Hartline has amassed a reputation as an excellent recruiter and teaching technician.
Speculation is already rampant in Columbus that Hartline will replace Day when that time comes.
