Ohio State has made its choice for its Week 1 starting quarterback. On Tuesday, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day named Kyle McCord the starter for the Buckeyes’ tilt Saturday against Indiana.

“NEWS: Ryan Day has named Kyle McCord Ohio State’s starting QB for Week 1,” On3 Sports posted.

The Buckeyes’ choice doesn’t come as much of a surprise. McCord was considered next in line after C.J. Stroud left Columbus to pursue a pro career.

The former four-star quarterback is a Class of 2021 recruit from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He committed to Ohio State all the way back in 2019, so this is a long time coming. He enters this year as a junior by eligibility.

Ohio State will have its work cut out for them this season. While they are one of the most talented teams in the country, there’s a ton of pressure in Columbus. It’s only been amplified after rival Michigan beat Ohio State in each of the last two seasons. That included a drubbing at the Horseshoe last November that no Buckeye fan has forgotten about. And while the team made it to the College Football Playoff anyway, their dreams were cut short as they lost to eventual champion Georgia.

So we’ll see how McCord plays this season. One thing’s for sure: If he wants to be successful at Ohio State, only one game truly matters for that. That comes in November.
