The Ohio State Buckeyes are the reigning national champions in college football. However, the Buckeyes are dealing with a lot of change heading into this season, following the exit of both defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly from the program, not to mention all of the usual coaching staff attrition that comes every season.

The Buckeyes also have a new starting quarterback in Julian Sayin, after last year’s quarterback, Will Howard, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he’ll learn under four-time MVP winner Aaron Rodgers.

Now, we have another key change for the Buckeyes, as they’re hiring a replacement coach following all of the attrition just before they open the season against Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns, according to one prominent college football insider.

“Sources: Ohio State is expected to add former Miami Dolphins DC and longtime NFL assistant coach Josh Boyer to the coaching staff. He brings a long familiarity with DC Matt Patricia, as Boyer worked for the Patriots from 2006-2018 and won three Super Bowls,” reported ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“He’s expected to join the Buckeyes for the upcoming season. Boyer also worked in college early in his career at South Dakota School of Mines, Bryant, Kent State, Dayton and King’s College,” Thamel continued.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Uh oh. Sounds like they are already hiring Patricia’s replacement. Panic has hit Columbus,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Weird to be doing this during preseason camp. Maybe all not well in columbus,” someone else added.

“He also is expected to lose to Michigan in November,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how Boyer fits into a team with such high expectations.
