When the Ohio State Buckeyes travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Irish won’t be wearing their traditional blue and gold threads. Instead, they’ll be breaking out some all green alternate uniforms for the primetime showdown between college football powerhouses.
On Monday morning, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish official Twitter account announced that the team will be wearing their green alternate uniform combination on Sept. 23 for the Week 4 showdown with the Buckeyes, including green pants and a green jersey.
The team announced the uniforms with a funny video with Marcus Freeman that parodied the iconic comedy-drama “Jerry Maguire.” But rather than shout the iconic line, “Show me the money,” Freeman instead says, “Show me the green jersey,” to quarterback Sam Hartman and running back Audric Estime before the all-green uniforms are revealed.
According to Tyler Horka of On3, Notre Dame has done well whenever they’ve broken out their green on their uniforms in the last 40 years, posting a 10-6 record with five consecutive wins from 2011 to 2022.
It will be interesting to see if these uniforms bring Notre Dame some good luck as the team looks to avenge last year’s loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
