Nick Saban explains new role at Alabama

There has been a lot of chatter of late as to what exactly former Alabama head coach Nick Saban‘s role with the program is right now.

Although he retired in January, Saban still maintains an office on campus and has been helping new head coach Kalen DeBoer adjust to life in the SEC.

Many think Saban is doing more than just sitting in an office giving advice and that his role is more involved than what he is letting on.

Saban tried to be clear on Monday during SEC Media Days on what exactly he is doing at Alabama when not working for ESPN.

“I don’t go into the building. I don’t try to meddle in what they have to do. But I want them to know I’m there to help them any way I can,” said Saban. “I’ve met with the DC numerous times. I’ve met with Kalen numerous times. Recruiting coordinator numerous times. We are there, and we are available, and hopefully, we can help them be one of the most competitive teams in the league.”

A lot of people feel one way Saban is helping is on the recruiting trail because Alabama, according to several recruiting publications, has either the No. 1 or No. 2 recruiting class in the nation. For those who thought Alabama wouldn’t be the same without Saban coaching, so far, they are wrong.
