Earlier this month, New Mexico State defeated New Mexico 27-17 in the Rio Grande Rivalry. But the rivalry between the two teams didn’t stop there.
In footage obtained by KOB 4 Eyewitness News in Albuquerque, New Mexico State quarterback Diego Pavia can allegedly be seen urinating on a New Mexico Lobos logo while giving a middle finger to another Lobos logo inside the UNM practice facility. It is unclear whether the incident occurred before or after the Aggies’ win over the Lobos on Sept. 17.
A UNM told KOB 4: “We are aware of the video and notified NMSU Athletic Administration of its existence on Monday morning.”
Meanwhile, an NMSU spokesperson said: “Any information regarding the potential discipline of a student would be protected under federal privacy laws.”
A native of Albuquerque, Pavia enrolled at New Mexico State in 2022 after spending the first two years of his college career at New Mexico Military Institute. Appearing in 12 games, including eight starts, last season, he completed 53.2 percent of his passes for 1,450 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions, in addition to rushing for 508 yards and six scores.
The MVP of the 2022 Quick Lane Bowl, Pavia has gotten off to a strong start this season. Through four games, he has completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 1,073 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions, adding another 268 yards on the ground.
The Aggies will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, when they face FIU.
