The Missouri Tigers completed one of the biggest upsets of the 2023 college football season on Saturday when they took down the No. 15 Kansas State Wildcats, 30-27.
The back-and-forth clash came down to the very end of regulation, as the Tigers walked off with the win following an SEC-record 61-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis.
Missouri quarterback Brady Cook had a big day, throwing for a career-high 356 yards and two touchdowns, as well as not throwing any interceptions for the third straight game. Wide receiver and former five-star recruit Luther Burden continued his strong sophomore campaign, crossing the 100-yard receiving mark for the second straight week, as he finished the afternoon with 114 yards on seven receptions.
It was Mizzou’s first non-conference win over a ranked team as an unranked team since the Tigers defeated No. 21 Arizona State, 30-9, in September 1990. It was also Mizzou’s first win over a team ranked in the top 15 or higher since the Tigers took down Florida, 38-17, in November 2018.
This was the 99th all-time meeting between the two schools, who played together in the Big Eight and Big 12 before Missouri departed for the SEC in 2012.
The victory moved the Tigers to 3-0 on the season, a mark Missouri hasn’t reached since the 2018 season.
Social media had plenty to say about the big upset in Columbia.
Being in college, at home, and kicking a game-winning FG like this has to be incredible.
Dude is about to have the night of his life.
